In 2024, the “Millie Fund” will grant $8,000 scholarships to one outstanding junior or senior undergraduate female student and one graduate female student enrolled in an accredited real estate, business, or finance program at a college or university in the United States or Canada who intends to pursue a career in commercial real estate.

The Mildred C. Hanson, SIOR Memorial Fund, established in 2008, has generously instituted an educational scholarship program intended to encourage and assist qualified female students in obtaining an education that will lead them into productive careers in the commercial real estate industry.
In 2024, The Mildred C. Hanson, SIOR Memorial Fund will be awarding two $8,000 scholarships. One to a qualified rising junior or senior female student enrolled in a program of study designed in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in an accredited four-year college or university program in Real Estate, Business or Finance, in the United States or Canada, who intends to pursue a career in commercial real estate and a second scholarship to a qualified female Masters Degree candidate enrolled in an accredited MRE or MRED program.

The SIOR Foundation
The SIOR Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote and support initiatives that expand, educate, and enhance the commercial real estate community. Established in 1962 to publish the industry’s first graduate-level textbook on industrial real estate, the Foundation collaborates with other organizations, SIOR, and SIOR Chapters to provide funding for a variety of educational initiatives designed to enhance the commercial real estate community.
Mildred C. Hanson, SIOR Memorial Scholarship Requirements
- All applicants must be citizens of the United States or Canada.
- All applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or university geographically located in the United States or Canada and must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate level degree related to commercial real estate (the “Qualified Program”).
- All applicants must be rising juniors or above.
- Scholarship funds may be used for expenses including tuition, room and board, textbooks and materials and any other expenses related to achieving an undergraduate degree.
- Scholarship funds are awarded directly to the college or university on behalf of the student.
Selection Criteria
The selection of scholarship recipients will be determined by a committee made up of members of the SIOR Foundation with consideration for the following criteria:
- The applicant’s indication of interest in pursuing a career in commercial real estate; please specify where your interests lie within the commercial real estate industry and plans upon completion of degree.
- The applicant’s record of scholastic achievement to date, including academic grade point average and extracurricular activities.
- The applicant’s community service and/or employment.
- The applicant’s economic need or situation
- The applicant’s recommendations by two persons familiar with the applicant’s achievements or goals. These would include professors, counselors, employers, REALTORS®, SIORs, and other individuals.
The application must be completed and submitted in its entirety electronically to the Foundation’s office no later than 5:00 PM EDT, Friday, November 1, 2024. Only letters of recommendation may come under separate cover. Please be sure to mark all support materials and pages with the name of the applicant for whom the materials are being submitted. Unmarked materials cannot be considered
