In keeping with the goals of renowned artist P. Buckley Moss, who struggled with dyslexia during her school years, this scholarship represents her dedication to young people who have learning differences and have aspirations for a career in the visual arts.
The P. Buckley Moss Society established this endowed scholarship in 2006 with an initial donation of $20,000, and it was first awarded in 2007. The P. Buckley Moss Society was established by Moss collectors in 1987 to foster an awareness of the art of P. Buckley Moss and to promote charitable endeavors consistent with her ideals.
The P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship provides up to $1,000.00 financial award annually to one graduating high school senior who plans a career in the visual arts. Awards are sent directly to the college to be applied towards tuition.
The scholarship may be renewed for up to three consecutive years based on eligibility. The amount of the award may vary from year to year.
Scholarship Acceptance Period and Deadline
P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship Application acceptance period is January 1-March 31.
Application deadline is March 31.
Applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Scholarship:
- Verified language-related learning difference
- Graduating High school senior
- Verified financial need
- Acceptance to an accredited four-year college or university or two-year community college in the United States.
- Pursuing a career in a visual arts field with art classes taken each semester
Verified language-related Learning Difference This scholarship focuses on students with language related learning differences. Learning differences are defined as disabilities in specific language processing, including but not limited to dyslexia, written expression, reading comprehension, central auditory processing, visual perception, word recognition,and sequencing. Verification of such diagnosis must be provided by a case manager or counselor. Students with ADD or ADHD alone are not eligible.

Acceptance of accredited four-year college or university or two-year community college Applicant to attend accredited four-year college or university or two-year community college in the United States.
Pursuing a career in a visual arts field with art classes taken each semester Visual arts is defined as art forms that create works which are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, and photography. Students in the performing arts are not eligible for this scholarship. Performing arts include dance, music, opera, drama, spoken word and circus arts. Filmmaking is only allowed if the student was the main creative force behind the project, such as the director. If the student was acting in someone else’s film, they are not eligible. Applied arts are also not eligible. Applied arts include industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, and interior design.
