The William E. Barto Scholarship Fund supports high school seniors in Duluth and Superior who plan to major in the arts at either the University of Minnesota Duluth or the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Eligibility
Applicants must graduate in the top 25 percent of their class from a public or private high school in Duluth or Superior. Financial need is a consideration in determining scholarship recipients.
Generally, awards are divided into spring and fall installments and are renewable for four years, assuming proper academic progress (GPA of 2.5 or greater).
About
William E. Barto was born in 1911 in Pennsylvania. Following service in the U.S. Navy, he worked for Fruehauf Co. In retirement, he enjoyed painting, a skill he learned from his first wife who was an accomplished watercolor artist. This scholarship was established in 1995 to honor his memory and to provide financial assistance for art students.
