The city of St. Petersburg, Florida is situated within the Tampa Bay Area. This well-known holiday resort area serves a big population of roughly 245,314, making St. Petersburg the 4th most heavily populated city in the whole state. St. Petersburg is situated within the County of Pinellas, wherein Clearwater serves the county seat. However, county services are available through county offices within the city of St. Petersburg. There are 2.7 million inhabitants in the Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The founders of the city were John C. Williams and Peter Demens, who purchased the land during the year 1876. Mr. Demens helped to bring the railroad to the area during the year 1888. St. Petersburg became a city officially in the year 1892, with a population of 300 people.

The city of St. Petersburg enjoys a tropical weather condition and a fantastic location on Tampa Bay. The annual calendar of the city is full of outdoor activities. Over 1,000 thousand outdoor events are held here on an annual basis, most happening along the preserved downtown waterfront area. Activities comprise the Cajun/Zydeco Crawfish Festival, American Stage in the Park, the Art Arbor Nature Crafts Festival, Earth Day's Green Thumb Festival, and a lo more. The art and music is practically constant as the parks and streets of the city fill with people. St. Petersburg is likewise the site of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, an Indycar series car race.

The downtown Central Business District in the city of St. Petersburg has numerous high rise structures like for instance the Bank of America Tower. Restaurants can be located on Central Avenue and the adjacent Beach Drive. Several bars, lounges and clubs could be found around and along Central Avenue with the type of entertainment to suit whatever taste. The State Theatre and Jannus Landing are two popular concert places. The St. Petersburg Times newspaper has its head office within the Central Business District.

The Central Business District has a lot of fine theatres and galleries. The Mahaffey Theater complex has a glass-enclosed atrium overlooking the city's waterfront. The multi-use facility, The Coliseum, has the finest ballroom within the south. There are some well-known art collections: Chihuly Collection presented by the Morean Arts Center, Salvador Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, the Florida International Museum, and the Holocaust Museum. Dozens of other cultural places and galleries could be found downtown and on the border.
