The city of Orlando is state of Florida's 5th largest center. This inland city has a population of approximately 240,000 people and is the center of the Greater Orlando metropolitan area and the seat of Orange County. The Greater Orlando metropolitan area has a population of over 2 million. Best known as the theme-park capital of the country, the city of Orlando is the place of Walt Disney World Resort. Several other theme parks make Orlando City a premiere tourist destination. Located near Port Canaveral, a major cruise ship port, the city of Orlando is serviced by several cruise lines, like the Disney Cruise Line.

The Orlando region was originally inhabited by Native Americans. It wasn't until 1842 that pioneers began to settle here, but the settlement only started to expand after the Third Seminole War in the 1850s. When Orlando was incorporated as a township during the year 1875 it had a population of only 85 people. By the turn of the century, Orlando had became a popular resort location, and tourism has remained a main economic driver. In fact, Orlando is one of the world's top vacation destinations due to Sea World Orlando, Universal Orlando resort and Walt Disney World.

The largest and amongst the most popular employers is Walt Disney World. Nearby, Canaveral Air Force Base, Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base provide work to Orlando residents. Many work in the city's thriving convention industry. A lot of people find jobs in the technology and manufacturing firms in the greater metropolitan area. More than 2000 manufacturing businesses exist here. The region's aerospace, agri-technology, software, aviation and digital media industries are famous for developing innovations. More than 1000 software companies and 500 biotechnology and life science businesses are situated in Orlando. There is also a thriving film and television sector. Electronic gaming is another source of work.

The city of Orlando boasts various arts and cultural attractions other than its theme parks. A partial list of museums and gardens/arboretums consists of Cornell Fine Arts Museum, the central Florida Zoological Park, The Harry P. Leu gardens, Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Orlando Science Center, The Historic Bok Sanctuary and The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Central Florida. Additionally, there are performing arts activities and a lot more.
