Pembroke Pines (population 154,750) is a city within Florida State, on the southern Atlantic Coast. It is the 2nd biggest city in Broward County. Pembroke Pines is situated halfway between the city of Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The city of Pembroke Pines is the 9th largest city within Florida State.

American Indians first inhabited the region roughly 4,000 years ago, or longer. Archaeological evidence dating back roughly 10,000 years has been unearthed around Broward County. It is speculated that the name Pembroke came from an early British landowner named the Earl of Pembroke. The city, that wasn't incorporated until the year 1960, is located along Pembroke Road. The region is characterized by numerous pine trees.

Pembroke Pines is located within an easy distance from two seaports and two airports: Port Everglades, the Port of Miami, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and the Miami International Airport. The highway US 27 gives access to Lake Okeechobee and to various areas in Florida State.

The city of Pembroke Pines is part of the South Florida metropolitan area and is close to a lot of famous attractions like for example The Broward Museum of Discovery & Science, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, The IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach, The Calder Race Course, The South Broward Ballet Theater, The Pembroke Pines Historical Museum and The Pembroke Pines Theater of Performing Arts. A wetland park is planned for Sheridan Street and US 27. In nearby city of Fort Lauderdale are The Miami-Hollywood Motorsports Park, The Museum of Art and The International Swimming Hall of Fame.

The Pembroke Pines economy is similar to that of various South Florida cities. Tourism is the main business. The median family income in the city was $69,267 during 2005, higher than both the Florida average ($50,465) and the national average ($55,832). Ever since 1992, subdivisions of the city have expanded considerably west of Interstate 75, in West Pines. This development has happened following Hurricane Andrew.
