Pompano Beach is a city within Florida State, on the Atlantic coastline. Fort Lauderdale lies just towards the south. Pompano Beach is within the County of Broward. The nearby Hillsboro Inlet forms part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The residents of Pompano Beach is nearly 100,000. It is part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and Miami, which is home to 5.5 million inhabitants.

The city is named for the pompano fish, a species found in abundance within the Atlantic ocean. The Tequesta Indians originally inhabited the area. They established villages and lived on the resources located in the ocean. The Tequesta way of life was replaced by the colonial culture of Europe. The Tequesta people were soon outnumbered by the Seminole Indians. With the completion of the railroad construction in 1896, the area became more accessible. 12 years after that, Pompano became integrated as a city. The city of Pompano Beach formed during 1947 as a combination between Pompano and the beach area which lies towards the east. The city's primary industry is tourism, along with high technology, light manufacturing and retail.

The city is currently redeveloping its beachfront property. The city of Pompano Beach is a regional paradise for fishermen, beach lovers and golfers with many thousands of tourists flocking to the area every year. Whether vacationing or residing within Pompano Beach, the quality of life is incomparable. The long white beaches are perfect. The golf courses are among the world's most beautiful and difficult in the world. There is virtually no end to the recreational options.

The city's annual calendar is busy with festivals and events. The Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo is a week-long event held during the month of May. Anglers from around the world head to the city of Pompano Beach for a major sport fishing tournament. The Holiday Boat Parade held during the month of December shows "best dressed" boats floating down the Intracoastal Waterway.

The open-air Pompano Beach Amphitheatre hosts big outdoor concerts. Pompano Beach is the home of Goodyear Blimp Base, one of only a handful of blimp bases within the world. The Festival Flea Market Mall is an important attraction with over 800 sellers hawking wares on sale. Just north of the city of Pompano Beach could be seen the bright beam of Hillsboro Light, a lighthouse.
