The capital city of the state of Connecticut is Hartford. Until the state disbanded county government in 1960, Hartford formed the seat of Hartford County. Based on the Census of 2010, the city's population was about 124,800, making it the 7th largest city in New England. It is the 2nd most populous city situated on the Connecticut River, that is the biggest river in New England.
