High River is a town in southwestern Alberta, Canada with a population of 10,716. It is 37 kilometres or 23 mi south of the city of Calgary, at the intersection of Alberta Highways 2 and 23. Although reasonably far from Calgary, the town is nonetheless considered to be part of the Calgary Area.

The Highwood River which runs through the town is where the High River gets its name. The river will usually flood during the springtime.

Joe Clark, former Canadian Prime Minister was born in the town of High River. Various famous former citizens comprise W.O. Mitchell, author of such books as Who Has Seen the Wind and Roses Are Difficult Here, and John "Pie" McKenzie, a WHA and NHL hockey player.

The town was the site for Smallville in Superman III and was the place utilized for Montana in Caitlin's Way, which is a series on Nickelodeon. Recently, a CBS television series, Heartland has found High River its main filming location. In addition, the movie Carolina Moon based on the book by Nora Roberts was filmed in High River.

As part of High River's heritage and tourism endeavours, several murals were painted all-around town during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. High River hosted the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Dodge Pro Tour Championships during the year 2006 and 2010.

There was a tree which stood beside the present town site of High River which was called the Medicine Tree. It was created through a natural grafting which happened between two cottonwood trees, when the branch of one grew into the trunk of the other.

The indigenous peoples, particularly the Blackfoot and Stony, considered this to be a sign from the Spirits that the spot was favoured. It was also near the Medicine Tree which traders determined to build a fort, and immediately after settlers came to claim the land which is currently High River.

The High River Culture Centre was designed to become a great location which was able to meet the needs of the local community, offering variety of activities, programs, and special events for the people. Programs are for various ages and are designed to expose the local community to a wide variety of opportunities.

The Culture Centre contains a huge studio which is utilized for various activities such as classes in music, the arts and dance, as well as general interest in addition to wellness and health courses.
