The city is usually called the "River City" as it is located close to the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River. Numerous kayakers, rafters and boaters come to the area from all around the globe. A 43-mile channel through the Sacramento River Delta connects San Fransisco bay to Sacramento's deepwater port. The deep water is utilized for both pleasure trips to the bay and international shipping. The major rail and shipping center, which carries fruit, vegetables, rice, dairy, beef and wheat products for the whole Sacramento Valley area is likewise situated here.
