Adelanto, Apple Valley, and Hesperia are all small communities that are situated nearby, and the bigger Los Angeles city is located about eighty two miles southwest of the city.

The city was at first named Victor upon its incorporation in 1962. In the year 1901, the U.S post office change the name as it was confusing the city of Victor, Colorado on various occasions. The new name came from Jacob Nash Victor, who was construction supervisor for the southern railroad. The Interstate I-15 and the California State Highway run through the city, and US Route 395 runs nearby. Until the Interstate I-15 was constructed, the main national transportation route from Chicago to Illinois was US Route 66, that was established in 1926. It ran right through Victorville.

Victorville was initially an agricultural community, however the large deposits of granite and limestone were located, then the city gradually started to rely on the cement manufacturing trade so as to support the financial system.

For both the tourists and residents alike, there are numerous attractions and activities. Thanks to its location to water and mountain amenities, there are water and skiing sports located only minutes away. Additionally, Las Vegas is near so many travel there for entertainment. The California Route 66 Museum is situated within Victorville, and there are numerous artifacts and photos that have been collected throughout the years that tell the history of the highway. There is even the Fire Museum, which chronicles the fire fighting history of the city since the 1930's.

The San Bernardino County Fair is held in the city every springtime. There are a lot of full blown events, like carnival rides, livestock competitions, and celebrity concerts. There is likewise a performing arts centre located downtown, that hosts some plays, concerts and musicals annually.
