Camrose is a city within central Alberta, Canada amidst some of the richest farmland within the prairies. It is a relatively small city which originally grew up along a railroad and currently grows along Highway 13. The city of Camrose is a beautiful community with several parks, leading to its moniker "The Rose City". Camrose offers a comfortable lifestyle with a large population of retirees.

Camrose City is located southeast of the provincial capital Edmonton about 90 kilometres away. The small city of Camrose is actively growing along Highway 13, which is a key freeway which runs through the centre of the city. Camrose is in a transitory region of Alberta, between prairie and boreal forest, referred to as aspen parkland. It is a major centre to the small farming communities in the nearby area. The Stony Creek runs through the city of Camrose and flows into the Battle River south of the city of Camrose.

It wasn't until around 1900 that the area was first inhabited. Nearly all pioneers will come through Wetaskiwin prior to setting out looking for new lands. The place which was to be Camrose City was roughly a day's journey from Wetaskiwin along the railroad, which made it a famous site on the route of pioneers. Before long businessmen and various settlers arrived to stay. The settlers came primarily from Scandinavian nations, such as Sweden and Norway, and many settlers likewise came from the US. At that time the settlement was known as the hamlet of Stony Creek. During the year 1904, Stony Creek started receiving mail service, its very first businesses began to open, and Constable "Blue" Smith, its first PCMP Officer, arrived.

The city has been called the "Rose City" because of the numerous wild roses growing in much of the cities parklands. Also, Jerry Twomey, who was a local rose grower, patented and bred the gorgeous Camrose Rose in honour of his birth place. This elegant tea rose boasts rich green foliage and plentiful pink blooms, making it the most beautiful flower in our rose beds. Developed to withstand the extreme Alberta weather conditions, the Camrose Rose was introduced to the city in 1995. It may be viewed on display at the Bill Fowler Centre.

The Chuck MacLean Arts Centre or CMAC was built during February, 1996 through a cooperative endeavor between the Camrose Arts Society, Camrose Co-op, and Camrose City. The Centre also owes its existence to the charitable donations of several organizations, clubs, individuals and grants. At the Chuck MacLean Arts Centre you will find a dark room, two art studios, a board room, a recital hall, and two dance studios that are available for rent.
