Calgary is the biggest city in the Province of Alberta, Canada. It is located within the south of the province, around eighty km east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Calgary is considered a metropolitan city which continues to retain its conventional culture of hockey, football, night clubs, bars, and hotel saloons. It has likewise been referred to as "Nashville of the North" due to its passion for country music. Calgary city is even home to a diverse scene of musical genres, like electronic, hip-hop, jazz, blues, punk, indie, rock, pop, metal and folk music. Due to its ethnically diverse communities, one could expect multicultural assets around the region. It may come to no surprise that the city has one of the largest "Little Italy" and Chinatown within the country these days. Its most diverse area within the city is 17 Avenue SE and Forest Lawn , otherwise called International Avenue.

There are several events and major festivals within Calgary city including the Calgary International Film Festival (film festival held yearly in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for ten days during late September and early October), FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival, Greek Festival (attendees can sample Greek cuisine, music, and dance, typically performed in conventional dress), Wordfest Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival, the Calgary Fringe Festival (theatre performances, street performances, film festivals, visual arts display, and some live music), Expo Latino (annual festival, typically held towards the end of August in celebration of the Latino culture), Calgary Folk Music Festival, Summerstock (high school and young post-secondary students from all over Canada perform a play in Olympic Plaza), and Calgary Gay Pride.

The city of Calgary has a lot of great parks for its visitors and residents to enjoy. The parks in the downtown area comprise: Central Memorial Park, Beaulieu Gardens, Eau Claire, Century gardens and Connaught Park. The parks located in the southwest comprise: 12 Mile Coulee, Baker Park, Bowness Park and Bowmont Park; Parks within southwest consist of: Battalion Park, Clearwater Park, Edworthy park and Douglas Fir Trail; Southeast parks consist of: Carburn Park, Beaverdam Flats, Elliston Park and Centenary Park; Parks within northeast include: laycock park, Big Marlborough Park and Bottomlands Park.

Gas and oil are the biggest contributors to Calgary's GDP, as the city is home to large oil companies, including BP, EnCana, Suncor Energy, Imperial Oil, Shell Canada, and TransCanada. Different big businesses situated within Calgary are Shaw Communications, NOVA Chemicals, Nexen, Telus, Shell Canada, Dow Chemical Canada and CNRL.
