Located on the Moose Jaw River within south-central Saskatchewan is the city of Moose Jaw. The people of the municipality fondly call themselves as Moose Javians. To the east of the city, approximately 77 kilometers away, is Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan. Regina is easily accessible by the Trans-Canada Highway, that conveniently runs right through Moose Jaw. The municipality of Moose Jaw is well known as being tourist and retirement friendly.

In the year 1857, the municipality was initially named "Moose Jaw Bone Creek" by John Palliser. There are several theories regarding how the name was decided. The first theory is that, when looking at a map, the shape of the Moose Jaw River resembles the jaw of a moose. The second is that the name is derived from the Plains Cree name "moscastani-sipiy", that translates to "a warm place by the river." The Coteau Range protects the river valley from the weather conditions. The Plains Cree word Moose Jaw means "warm breezes".

Even though Moose Jaw is mostly an industrial centre, Canada's military air show flight demonstration team, the Snowbirds, is located within the municipality. The business district is known for its attractive historical murals which are painted on the exterior of quite a few buildings. The city of Moose Jaw likewise serves as a railway junction for the area's agricultural produce. Some of the small grain elevators which previously lined the highway are being replaced by large capacity concrete grain terminals. Because the technology becomes more advanced in the areas of harvest, transport, and road construction, large inland terminals have become more economically viable. Due to the cities proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway. quite a few meat-processing plants, potash, salt, anhydrous ammonia, urea fertilizer and ethanol producers can be found near Moose Jaw.

In the city of Moose Jaw, there are numerous major places of interest, like for example the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, the Temple Garden's Mineral Spa and the History of Transportation Western Development Museum. Trolley tours of the city are still offered by Moose Jaw Trolley Company, which has been in business ever since the year 1912. Just outside of the municipality of Moose Jaw are the roadside attractions of Mac the Moose, Capone's car and Moose family. Other highlights of the municipality of Moose Jaw are CFB Moose Jaw, which is a NATO flight training school, and the geothermal spa.

Moose Jaw No. 161 is the governing body of the city of Moose Jaw. Roughly 1,228 inhabitants, including individuals from the nearby Canadian Forces Base, depend on their services.

The municipality has only one indoor shopping centre called the Town 'N' Country Mall. Them mall supports some independent retailers and grocery stores, like for instance the Real Canadian Superstore, Co-Op, Safeway Inc, Giant Tiger, Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, Sobeys, The Brick, Staples, MKarr's Furniture, Shoppers Drug Mart, Mark's Work Warehouse, PartSource, London Drugs, Liquidation World, Dollar Giant, Home Hardware, Peavey Mart, Western Lumber, Castle Building Centres Group, and Liquidation World.
