Missouri City, Texas has a present population of 63,900 in the metro Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area. Much of the city is situated within Fort Bend County whilst a smaller portion extends into Harris County. Because of its proximity to Houston, Missouri City reaps the benefits of having all the amenities connected with a large metropolitan region. Main freeways, rail lines, the Hobby and Bush Airports and the Port of Houston are all easily accessible from the city. Lots of people prefer to move to Missouri City to escape the "large town" atmosphere. Due to its strategic location, Missouri City is able to connect its local companies with customers all over the globe.

Missouri began when two Houston real estate developers purchased some land during the year 1890 near the BBB&C railroad. The real estate agents placed advertisements in the St. Louis Missouri area with the intent to subdivide the land and sell plots of land. Realizing they would need a familiar name to be able to attract people of St. Louis to purchase their land, they came up with the name "Missouri City" with the help of a third developer who had also purchased land in the region.

During 1919, oil was discovered near the Blue Ridge region. Missouri City quickly became a oil shipping site and salt producer from a nearby salt mine. As the city of Houston quickly grew, some residents relocated to the city of Missouri and commuted to work. In the year 1956, in order to avoid the annexation of Houston to the unincorporated township of Missouri City, the city decided to become incorporated. During the 1970's, several middle class African-Americans moved to the city of Missouri.

The city takes great pride in its local companies, regardless of their size. Missouri City is an ideal site for up-and-coming entrepreneurs to begin a business, due to its growing population and thriving economy. In order to attract prospering businesses to relocate, Missouri City offers an incentive package in order to help smooth the transition. There are also several programs in place to ensure that the present resident industries flourish.

Missouri City has been ranked by CNN/Money magazine as one of America's Best Places to Live. It was also voted as the states 5th Safest City by the Congressional Quarterly. Missouri City has an extremely convenient location; it is situated only minutes away from Downtown Houston, two major airports, and the Texas Medical center.

Missouri City is considered a Houston Suburb. There are numerous local attractions and interesting activities to enjoy, such as Fort Bend County Fair and Livestock Show, Fort Bend County Museum, George Ranch Historical Park, Fort Bend Theatre, Rosenberg Railroad Museum, and the Great Southwest Equestrian Center.
