The gorgeous city of Penticton is found within the Southern Interior of British Columbia in the Okanagan Valley. Penticton sits right between scenic lakes, Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, making it an ideal location for water sports, boating and fishing. Both lakes have beautiful beaches and thus the city has become an exciting tourist location. The population in 2010 was 37,721.

There are several recreational opportunities to be had all year round in Penticton. In the winter, Apex Mountain Resort provides challenging runs for the lots of skiers and snowboarders in the area. There is the Kettle Valley Railway Trail that provides a terrific opportunity for biking and hiking. The Skaha Bluffs are known for rock climbing. Throughout wintertimes, Penticton Vees, the BCHL hockey team, play. The PCSL soccer team is the Penticton Pinnacles and their season is from May until the month of July. Penticton is also home to Penticton Lakers, the KIJHL team.

Among the most recent constructions within the city is the South Okanagan Events Centre, that was the city voted 80.3% in favor by its people. The new, $73 million sports complex with convention center and arena can bring in big name concerts and productions to the the city of Penticton, like Cirque de Soleil. It can also possible serve as an early fall or summer training facility for the Vancouver Canucks. It is home to the BCHL's Penticton Vees. The hockey team is named in honor of the senior hockey team that won the Ice Hockey World Championships against Russia in the year 1955. The South Okanagan Events Centre opened during the month of September 2008 and has rapidly become a well-known stop on concert tours and other special events.

Penticton is within the hub of the Okanagan Valley wine tourism. The city of Penticton has access to 88 wineries within a one hour drive. Naramata is a city situated close by which had 22 wineries for the 2009 Fall Wine Festival.

For a historic and scenic trails, there is the Kettle Valley Railroad Trail Network, which consists of over 160 km of flat rail-bed trails. This area is ideal for both biking and hiking adventures. This trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail and it has become a well-known summer spot for day trips or longer overnight treks where individuals camp out along the way. In springtime 2011, the Penticton Aquatic Center was built in order to replace the Community Center pool. This new facility provides a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere for people who would like to participate in aquatic classes or just take pleasure in the health benefits of the sauna, swimming lanes and hot-tub.

The semi-arid climate gives the city with cold winters and hot summers. Precipitation on average is approximately 330 mm of yearly rain. Daytime temperatures in the summer usually reach 30 degrees. As humidity is relatively low, the evenings during summer are quite warm. The winters within Penticton are short. For approximately two months of the year, the mean daily temperatures average just below freezing. All through the whole year, the average daily maximum temperature remains above zero.
