Welland, nicknamed the "Rose City," was once formally known as The Corporation of the City of Welland, is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara within Southern Ontario, Canada. The city, that was traditionally known to be a place where "rails and water meet," was first inhabited by the United Empire Loyalists during 1788.

There are numerous points of interest to see in the city. Among them consist of: Community Pools, Murals, Welland Public Library, Welland Court House, Welland Historical Museum, South Niagara Rowing Club & Rowing Course, Niagara Exhibition & Fairgrounds, Farmer's Market, The Sports Complex, Welland Arenas/Ice Rinks, Niagara Motorcycle Raceway, and Welland Canal Memorial Monument. Murals could be found all over the place within the city of Welland, because there are 28 of them situated all around Welland City. Community pools are likewise available for avid swimmers, and the City of Welland provides three outdoor pools for everyone's pleasure. Welland Public Library is located at 50 The Boardwalk, with a branch in the North West section of the city on South Pelham. The library has been existing ever since the year 1825 and is the storehouse for many information about Welland City. Welland Court House is located within the downtown core of the city, and is considered a state of the art facility set for the new millennium. South Niagara Rowing Club and Rowing Course is an area that is very conducive for rowing and great races due to its high banks that shelter the waterways from the wind. The Welland Historical Museum comprises a history of the industrial development of Welland City.

Individuals who like the outdoors would definitely like the parks within the city. The more notable ones include: Memorial Park, a newer park within the southeast; Merritt Island Park along the canal; and Chippewa Park, a well-developed, older park within the northwest area. Chippewa Park has mature specimen trees, a big pond, small ornamental fish ponds in a formal rose garden, and playgrounds. It has a war memorial carved from Lacasse granite and designed by the recognized Canadian sculptor, Elizabeth Wyn Wood. Memorial Park was a project of the 1967 Centennial, and it features outdoor pools shaped like a figure eight, a monument at the park and young trees. The Welland River passes under the old Welland Canal. There is a long narrow strip of land (Merritt Island) that is between the old canal and the river, and the end of the park closest to the city center has picnic tables and other playground equipment. The Welland Canal Parkway Trail is a recreational path which begins within the City of St. Catharines at Lake Ontario and ends at Lake Erie in Port Colborne. The trails situated within the city of Welland are smooth and follows alongside the Welland ship and Recreational canals.

Manufacturing companies such as Atlas Steels, Plymouth Cordage Company, United Steel, and Union Carbide were once the biggest employers within Welland City. Now, only a few businesses like for example Lakeside Steel, still continue to hire large numbers of individuals. More recently, Welland City has seen more call centres within the city, because of the fact that there is a large francophone community here. The biggest of these companies is Canadian Tire Financial Services, which hires approximately 1,600 individuals within the two centres. There is also an enormous factory in the city of Welland, which is supplied by the Sir Adam Beck hydroelectric generation plants at Niagara Falls via Welland Hydro.
