Located east of Windsor City, Ontario, is Tecumseh City. Located on Lake St. Clair, the Windsor bedroom community of Tecumseh has been developing rapidly during the last three decades since former agricultural lands have given way to new subdivisions. Tecumseh Town has a population of around 24,000.
In the past, Tecumseh City was a small Francophone community with little more than a school, church, post office, hotel and general store. Today, new people are attracted to the long summers and mild winters, and the various fine urban amenities, like health facilities, shopping areas and restaurants. The town has likewise seen growth in its industrial and commercial sectors, particularly food processing. Pilsbury Company and Green Giant operated a plant in the center of Tecumseh, but sold it during the late 1990s to Family Tradition, who then sold it to Carriere.
During the year 1999, as part of a reorganization of Essex County, the town of Tecumseh was merged together with the Township of Sandwich South and the Village of St. Clair Beach. During the year 2003, Tecumseh's 23 square kilometers was annexed by the nearby City of Windsor.
