Pelham is a town within the heart of Niagara Region in the province of Ontario, Canada. Located south of St. Catharines, Pelham City is bordered by the township of West Lincoln on its west side and Welland River on its south side. Welland River flows into the Niagara River. The population of the town during 2006 was around 16,000.
North Pelham has some lovely natural features, like for example the Short Hills, Coyle Creek that flows south into the Welland River, and Twelve Mile creek, that flows north into Lake Ontario. Canada's largest Sugar Maple tree is located within the village of North Pelham. It is known as the Comfort Maple Tree in honour of the Comfort family which once owned the land where it stands. The tree, roughly 500 years old, has been designated a Conservation site.
The Short Hills in North Pelham, were formed a long time ago when the Twelve Mile Creek cut a line through the valley filling it with glacial till and sedimentary deposits, forming hills. Short Hills Provincial Park is a wildlife preserve of 6.6 square kilometres. St. John's Conservation area is one more natural area with trails and a fish pond.
Golf fanatics enjoy Pelham's various golf courses, like for instance Lookout Point Golf and Country Club. As the town's oldest course, it was established by a group of Welland businessmen in the year 1992 and constructed on a spot that was once the planned location of King George's Battery.
