Oshawa is amongst Ontario, Canada's cities on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. It is the biggest community in the Regional Municipality of Durham, with its name originating from Ojibwa, that means "the crossing place." Oshawa began as a transfer point for the fur trade, where furs were loaded at the Oshawa harbor and transported to the trading posts situated at the mouth of the Credit River.

The Oshawa trails offer its citizens and visitors an opportunity to see the beauty of Oshawa's culture, natural resources and parks. Harmony Creek and Oshawa valleys have greeneries that are normally seen within the Southern Ontario valley lands. Jack in the Pulpit, Horsetrail, and Ostrich Fern are great places to discover native plants. Donevan Recreation Complex has public swimming, an indoor pool and arena for skating. Farewell Park provides the chance for everybody to watch softball games through summer evenings, play basketball along with friends, and have a picnic or play on the playground. McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve, which was operated and maintained by General Motors of Canada, has several walking trails which comprise Dogwood Trail meant to give interpretive opportunities for the visually impaired. Lakeview Park is the location utilized for the Oshawa Community Museum's nineteen-century homes. The Canadian Automotive Museum features over 70 vehicles in an authentic 1920's car dealership. The museum provides a first-hand look at military hardware, tanks, photos, scout cars, letters, medals, certificates and different military memorabilia from WWII.

Oshawa Fiesta Week is a yearly, week-long celebration which happens each June. The Festival displays a fabulous parade, providing cultural entertainment and ethnic cuisine. This festive event is organized by the Oshawa Folk Arts Council, and it brings community pride and camaraderie to everyone. The Purple Woods Maple Festival, a 17-hectare open meadow and sugar maple forest is located on the Oak Ridges Moraine. This particular festival takes place each and every March.

Oshawa City is the head office of General Motors Canada, a large-scale automotive maker. It is in friendly rivalry with Windsor, Ontario, which houses the headquarters of Chrysler. The business is one of the main contributors to the technological development and capital investments of Oshawa city. The city even draws the European immigrants who are great at trades. The southern part of Oshawa city is mostly made up of industrial zones and compact lodging meant for industrial personnel while the northern portion has a suburban feel. Recent years is seeing the city grow rapidly, and rising property values in addition to the growth of land speculation have created an edge to the local financial system.
