The city of Arlington is situated in Tarrant County and hosts a population of approximately 365,000, making it the third biggest city within the Dallas Metroplex and the seventh largest city in Texas. It is the largest city in the state that is not a county seat. Arlington City is bordered by several cities, like for instance Kennedale, Grand Prairie and Mansfield. Forth Worth City is situated roughly 12 miles west of the city of Arlington and Dallas is located roughly 20 miles east.

In the city are several popular facilities, comprising The Texas Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington, the University of Texas at Arlington, Cowboys Stadium, the International Bowling Campus, the theme parks Six Flags over Texas, the waterpark Hurricane Harbor and the headquarters of American Mensa. It is also the headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV.

A small portion of it extends into Dallas County, whilst most of the city sits in Tarrant County. Hence, there are two county court systems serving Arlington City.

In 1876, the city was founded along the Texas and Pacific Railway and was named after the Arlington House of general Robert E. Lee. It wasn't until 1884 when it was incorporated. By 1910, Arlington City had electricity, water, telephone and natural gas services in addition to a public school system. Prior to WWII, the population increased to more than four thousand.
