Denton is the country seat of Denton County and now hosts a population of around 120,000. The Oklahoma-Texas border is approximately 47 miles north of Denton and Dallas lies 49 miles southeast.

The University of North Texas, which is the largest university in Northern Texas, and Texas Woman's University are situated within the city of Denton and between the two of them host more than 45,000 students.
