The city is popular for its bridges as it has 446 and has been called the "City of Bridges". Pittsburgh's downtown has a diversified economy and urban infrastructure with more than 151 high-rise buildings and a couple of inclined railways. Pittsburgh's central business district forms a triangle of land, called the Golden Triangle, on the Allegheny Plateau bounded by the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers at their confluence, where the Ohio River is formed. The city of Pittsburgh ranks 25th within the country for urban jobs and 6th in job density. "The Steel City" was formerly primarily a city that manufactures steel.
The city of Pittsburgh has been able to benefit from the areas two wealthy families, Carnegie and Heinz, who have made many contributions. The world-class Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra plays at the Heinz Hall place. The Carnegie Museum of Art boasts a remarkable selection of art, featuring masterworks by Monet, van Gogh and other important artists. Likewise located there is the Heinz Architectural Center. Pittsburgh was the home of famed artist Andy Warhol, whose works are showcased in the Warhol Museum. Frank Lloyd Wright's seminal Fallingwater home is open for tours within nearby Mill Run.
The area has moved passed its roots as a major steel producer and heavy manufacturing to include substantial business and professional opportunities into its more diversified economy. Ten Fortune 1000 companies are have their head offices here. Well-known businesses consist of Mellon Financial, Dick's Sporting Goods and H.J. Heinz. The biggest company with head office within the area is United States Steel.
The cities main industries consist of biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, high technology, retail and medicine.
There are many parks and recreational areas within the city of Pittsburgh. The Raccoon State Park is a huge city park featuring water sports, fishing and boating on Racoon Lake, as well as hiking, horseback riding, cycling and cross-country skiing. Point State Park, located at the actual point of convergence of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers, is known simply as "the Point." Excellent skiing opportunities downhill are available close by within Blue Knob, Seven Springs and Hidden Valley. Located within the Laurel Mountains at a height of nearly 3000 feet, Seven Springs is Pennsylvania's largest ski area comprising 17 slopes.
There are also various cultural, educational and medical institutions found outside Pittsburgh's downtown core, like for example the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Carnegie Museum and Library.
