Eugene is the seat of Lane County and the 2nd biggest city within Oregon State. It is situated at the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, at the south end of the Willamette Valley, roughly 80 km or 50 miles east of the Oregon Coast.

The city of Eugene, Oregon has a reputation of being among the most livable cities in the United States. Situated close to both the Cascades Mountains and Oregon coast, its community provides the best elements of big city culture and small town charm. The arts scene is very distinct within the city of Eugene. The city of Eugene offers a thriving diversity with its natural beauty, abundance of culture, attractions and sports. The northwest coffeehouses and eclectic boutiques provide something to suit each taste. There is an extensive network of trails and paths throughout the city making it one of the most bike friendly communities within the USA.

Situated within Eugene is the University of Oregon. The city supports recreational activities such as jogging, kayaking, biking and rafting. There is a broad concentration on the arts in the community and with its activist political leanings; many residents with "alternative" lifestyles prefer to live here. The slogan of the city is "A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors." Eugene is likewise called "Track Town, USA," and as the "Emerald City." The Nike Corporation started in the city of Eugene.

The city of Eugene has created a lot of community development projects that have been used within other cities all-around the US. This is partially due to the awareness of the cities citizenry, as they are extremely active and informed. The city maintains the legacy which was initiated back in the 1970s when the city was full of co-operative and community projects. Nowadays, alternative schools are many and small natural foods stores are common in the majority of neighborhoods.

Located at the University of Oregon is the excellent Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, that has recently seen the expansion of its facilities to more than double its previous size. The new galleries highlight Korean, Japanese, European, American and Chinese art exhibits. In addition, the University Of Oregon Museum Of Natural History provides tourists exhibits on natural history and anthropology.

For the public, there is an extensive outdoor park system within the city. Alton Baker Park is one of the largest of the developed parks in the city. Amongst the most magnificent parks in the region is the Hendricks Park. Other parks comprise Spencers Butte, Fern Ridge Reservoir, and Owen Memorial Rose Garden. With over twenty eight miles of off-street paths, the city of Eugene has a high population of residents who like biking. There are 4 bicycle bridges which cross the Willamette River and 78 miles of on-street bicycle lanes.

Located only 45 miles west of the city is Kentucky Falls, that is a great location to enjoy some hiking. The park features 3 waterfalls that could be viewed and enjoyed. For those who favor winter recreational activities, the Willamette Pass Ski Area and the Hoodoo Ski Area are great locations for the entire family.
