The city of Gresham is situated immediately east of Portland, within Oregon. It was named for Walter Quinton Gresham, the American Civil War General and the Postmaster General. Based on the census of the year 2010, the population was around 105,600, making Gresham the 4th biggest city in the state of Oregon. It is situated in Multnomah County at the mouth of the Columbia River.

Gresham was unable to establish itself as a city without a post office and a postal code. There was a local store owner who offered the use of his store as the local post office and proposed naming the city after Postmaster General Walter Q. Gresham if a post office was granted. Before this time, the city of Gresham was just called "Campground" due to its environment being a wooded site where pioneers were known to stop and spend the night and get refreshed before moving onto the Willamette Valley and through to Portland.

The post office was established in May, 1884 and Gresham was later incorporated during 1905 as a city. The very first mayor of the newly established city of Gresham was Lewis Shattuck who was a son of a pioneer family.

The historic downtown center of Gresham is situated in the middle of the city and is really a hidden gem. With an elaborate blend of over 150 shops, businesses and restaurants, the place is home to both old architecture and new construction combined.

The Springwater Corridor is a former rail corridor that have been transformed for an alternative transportation hub with recreational trail. Initially conceived during 1903, it is the major southeast section of the 40-Mile Loop that was made as a nature trail surrounding Gresham. Currently, the loop is more than 170 miles long.

The Springwater Corridor runs from the town of Boring all the way into the city of Portland at SE Fourth & Ivon. The corridor fully finished is about 14 miles long. It begins near Tideman Johnson Park, beginning east of McLoughlin Blvd. The trail continues east through Gresham just past the Clackamas County line, serving numerous recreational trail users and commuters on a yearly basis.

The city of Gresham is situated in between two of Oregon's main recreation areas; Mt. Hood and the Columbus River Gorge. There is a huge variety of activities provided by Mt. Hood and the Mt. Hood National Forest. Some famous activities consist of fishing, camping, hiking, biking and climbing to the top of the tallest glacial peak in Oregon, a remarkable 11,235 feet elevation. Within an hour's drive from the city, there are many options for people who enjoy snowmobiling, snowboarding and downhill skiing.

The city's main attractions include: Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre, the Farmer's Market, Rockin' Around the Block Car Show, Gresham Pioneer Museum, the Highland Pub & Brewery as well as the Mount Hood Jazz Festival and the Art Walk.
