The largest city within the U.S. State of New Hampshire is the city of Manchester. It is the largest city located within northern New England. This particular area comprises the states of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. It is the 10th largest city within New England and is located in the County of Hillsborough along the banks of Merrimack River. This particular river divides Manchester into the eastern and western parts. The city of Manchester is situated near the northern end of the Northeast megalopolis. Manchester had a population of about 109,560 during the U.S. Census of 2010. This number was the most amongst whatever city within New England north of Boston, including Massachusetts City.

The early colonists settled within Manchester in the 1670s. It was in this time that it was mainly a farming community. The name "Manchester" is derived from the city of Manchester, England. The area was abundant in numerous resources for paper, lumber and textiles because of the area's various brooks and rivers. Eventually, Manchester grew into an industrial township. During 1783, it was initially incorporated as part of East Hartford. During 1823, it was later incorporated as a separate town. In 1838, the biggest silk mill within the globe was established here.
