The small city of Corner Brook is situated within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, on the west coastline of the main island of Newfoundland. The cities current population has reached over 20,000 residents, while the surrounding region reaches almost 27,000 people.

The city of Corner Brook is situated at the mouth of the Humber River on the Bay of Islands, Corner Brook has the largest population outside Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula. As such, the city of Corner Brook functions as a service centre for northern and western Newfoundland.

The area was originally four distinct communities with unique commercial activities. Curling, with its fishery; Corner Brook West, likewise referred to as Humber West or Westside, with its retail businesses; Humbermouth and the Heights or Corner Brook East, has its industrial operations and railway; and Townsite, which is the city of Corner Brook, is home to the workers of the paper and pulp mill. During the year 1956, these four communities were combined to form the existing City of Corner Brook.

In recent years, the city of Corner Brook has become a small but growing centre for television and film production in Eastern Canada. The Atlantic Studios Cooperative within Corner Brook is the largest sound stage in Atlantic Canada. It is situated in the Pepsi Centre, the multi-purpose arena facility of the city of Corner Brook.

The city of Corner Brook is home to Grenfell Campus, Memorial University where a strong and vivacious arts community exists both within the school and well into the public. Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre amongst various institutions thrive in promoting all levels of the arts from theatre to visual arts and well beyond.

Artists living and working in the community comprise Jordan Bennett, Jillian Murphy, Rodney Mercer and Christian Cardell Corbet.

The very first legally non-profit Pride organization found within Newfoundland and Labrador was started in Corner Brook, and the city is the site of the yearly Pride Parade for the LGBT community.

Situated along the North Shoreline of the Bay of Islands, the Admiral Palliser's Trail is a popular and scenic route which stretches for 38 km or 23 miles. The Trail begins on Route 440 in the city of Corner Brook, and ends in the small community of Cox's Cove. This scenic route is known as Admiral Palliser's Trail, named after Sir Hugh Palliser. Sir Palliser sent Captain Cook to explore and chart the west coast of Newfoundland during the 18th century.

This route would take you through six communities: Hughes Brook, Irishtown-Summerside, Gillams, Meadows, McIvers, and Cox's Cove. Look for the Arctic tern colony just off Mclvers; hike the Hughes Brook Trail; or take a boat tour at Cox's Cove and learn about the three "arms" in the region: Goose Arm, North Arm and Middle Arm. On your tour you might just spot a whale!
