The North Carolina city of Raleigh is the capital of the state, and is known by the moniker of the "City of Oaks" as the city is surrounded by oak trees. The city of Raleigh is the seat of Wake County, and with a population just over 400,000, it is the second largest city within North Carolina. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Raleigh is part of The Triangle, the well-known name for Research Triangle Park. The two other cities forming the triangle are Chapel Hill City and the city of Durham. The Triangle is situated between Raleigh and Durham.

The nearby satellite towns and suburbs of the city of Raleigh consist of: Garner, Cary Clayton, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wake Forest, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Wendell, Rolesville and Zebulon.

Raleigh City has various free attractions for their patrons and visitors to take pleasure in. The city of Raleigh has been known as the Smithsonian of the South because there are a lot of high caliber museums in the area. The city is home to the interactive world museum and the world's largest natural history museum. It also has the biggest art collection from Europe within the Southern States. Both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Coast are situated relatively close to the city of Raleigh, providing various outdoor activities. The area's ski resorts offer snowboarding and skiing. Hikers can traverse towering peaks, whilst camping nearby pristine streams and lakes where trout fishing is popular. Sunny, warm beaches offer boating and swimming opportunities along the coast. The city itself boasts extensive greenway systems and parks.

The state government is Raleigh's biggest employer. The Research Triangle Park, is a leading centers for high-technology development and research, is a prominent employer and mainstay of the city's economy. The park comprises research universities which hire many thousands of individuals. The Raleigh-Durham region is home to lots of high-technology and medical businesses in sectors including electrical, electronic, telecommunications and medical. Other sectors include paper products, clothing and pharmaceuticals. Highly specialized companies produce intricate equipment and electronic parts in Raleigh's manufacturing sector.
