Huntersville, North Carolina is located 12 miles north of Charlotte in the county of Mecklenburg. It supports a population of just less than 25,000. It is not known if the town was named after Rev. Humphrey Hunter, a local Revolutionary War hero and Presbyterian minister, or Robert Boston Hunter, a cotton farmer and local landowner. The town has a total land area of 31.1 square miles.

The city of Huntersville, the very first Lake Norman town north of Charlotte, was incorporated during 1873. The area grew fast thanks to the fertile land and the building of a rail line. But even before the arrival of the rail line, steam engines carried passengers on rails that still run parallel to N.C. Some of the earliest businesses were a cotton mill and a brickyard which supplied bricks for home building. Cotton was grown on large plantations. An early cotton mill, the Virgin Manufacturing Company, promoted development of a "mill town" on the east side of the railroad tracks. In later years, the textile business attracted new residents and created more employment.

Now, the rich history of the region is a draw for residents. There is still fertile farmland here, and the easy commute to Charlotte combined with the proximity to Lake Norman make this region a fantastic place to reside.

The local attractions within Huntersville consist of Historic Rural Hill Farm, Latta Plantation, Northstone Country Club, Holbrook Park, Birkdale Village and Joe Gibbs Racing. In addition to its historic sites, Huntersville also has a medieval style amusement park.

Lake Norman is a big man-made lake close to the city of Huntersville. It is a popular place for residents and tourists to enjoy water skiing and boating. The town also has golf courses with fantastic facilities, including the Birkdale Golf Club, Skybrook Golf Club and North Mecklenburg Country Club.
