The city of Evansville, Indiana is the third biggest city within the state and is located within the southern part of Indiana. The city of Evansville presently boasts a population of more than 117,000 individuals, based on the 2010 census. Evansville is the county seat of Vanderburgh County. Furthermore, it is the regional hub for the Illinois-Kentucky Tri-State-Indiana Area. A population estimate taken during the year 2008 put the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area at approximately 350,200 residents. The city of Evansville is located in the southwestern corner of the state of Indiana.

Evansville is located on a mild horseshoe bend on the Ohio River. The town was settled in 1812 and it has been nicknamed "River City." The Casino Aztar is one of the most famous attractions in the region. It is the very first riverboat casino in the state. The University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville are both situated here.

Hugh McGary Jr. was responsible for initially settling the region during the year 1812. In the year 1817, Evansville was laid out with the assistance of a local attorney and territorial legislator General Robert M. Evans. This was for whom the community was named. Evansville became integrated as a city in 1847. Soon after, the Evansville & Crawfordsville Railroad, the very first railroad in the region became established.

As the middle of the 20th century arrived, the city had become a major industrial center.
