Wetaskiwin play is a small city in the province of Alberta, Canada. The city of Wetaskiwin is situated 70 kilometres or 43 mi south of the provincial capital of Edmonton. The city name originates from the Cree word wi-taski-win-ispatinaw, meaning "the hills where peace was made". The population of the City of Wetaskiwin according to its 2009 municipal census is about 12,000.

The Reynolds-Alberta Museum could be situated within the city of Wetaskiwin. This large museum is dedicated to the celebrating "the spirit of the machine." Moreover, the Wetaskiwin and District Heritage Museum houses documents concerning the pioneer arrival and lifestyle within Wetaskiwin's early years. Located southeast of Wetaskiwin, the Alberta Central Railway Museum acknowledges the impact which the railway had on central Alberta. Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame is also located a short walk away from the museum.

The city of Wetaskiwin sits on land that was once the coastline of the large sea which covered a lot of landscape of Alberta Province millions of years ago. The northwest end of the city of Wetaskiwin is characterized by hills with sandy soil (formerly sand dunes), whereas the southeast end of the city is very flat with more silty soil.

The city of Wetaskiwin sits at an altitude of about 760 m or 2,490 ft high. There are a lot of waterway surrounding the city of Wetaskiwin including Pipestone Creek, Bigstone Creek, Bittern Lake and Bearhills Lake and Coal Lake. The reservoir referred to as Coal Lake was developed east of the city of Wetaskiwin on Battle River.

Wetaskiwin is located at the crossroads of Highway 13, Highway 2A and the Canadian Pacific railroad.

The city of Wetaskiwin has the distinction of having the highest level of car sales per capita in the country, due to a large part to city specific advertising produced through co-operation of all of the auto dealers lining the "Auto Mile". The slogan "Cars Cost Less in Wetaskiwin" is usually attributed to the city of Wetaskiwin.

The city of Wetaskiwin began a Municipal Sustainability Plan in February 2009. The project that is titled "Wetaskiwin Tomorrow" is about getting comments from people with an interest in Wetaskiwin on the kind of city which they want to work and live in for the next 20 or more years. Next, making use of that comments, a group of people will create a plan to present to City Council.

The Wetaskiwin Tomorrow plan, once it is approved, will help to guide the city council when choices regarding the future of the city are made. The plan will help the city of Wetaskiwin create a direction for the areas of business development, social services, cultural activities, and environmental protection.
