Maverick Academic Scholars are selected from incoming freshmen who have a demonstrated history of strong academic performance. Maverick Academic Scholarships range from $1,000 to $8,000 per year and may be renewed for up to three additional years. The awards vary based upon individual student profile, the stronger the profile, the higher the award.
Every incoming freshman will receive a holistic review by the Scholarship Committee of their academic record for scholarship consideration. A variety of factors are considered using a combination of academic qualifications such as high school rank, GPA, test scores and difficulty of high school courses.
UTA is test-optional for the 2024-2025 academic year and so is the Maverick Academic scholarship. Submission of SAT or ACT test scores is optional for consideration, but strongly encouraged. A student’s test score will be included only if it will improve their scholarship award. Students are offered the highest scholarship value they are eligible to receive based on their academic credentials and available funds.
The academic profile of a typical Maverick Academic Scholar will include a combination of the following qualifications below:
- Top 25% high school rank
- 3.7 High School GPA (on an unweighted 4.0 scale calculated by UTA’s Admissions Office)
- A minimum 1280 SAT or 27 ACT
- Holistic review of a student’s academic profile and difficulty of high school courses completed
This scholarship includes the non-resident waiver for students that are not residents of the State of Texas. This reduces the amount charged for tuition and fees to the level paid by in-state residents for up to four years if the student remains in good academic standing for the duration of the scholarship.
