In Memory of Edie Mourre
Braille Literacy Canada has established an annual scholarship in memory of Edie Mourre. This scholarship will go to a person wishing to study Unified English Braille, Music Braille, or other Braille systems.
All donations made in Edie’s name will go directly toward the scholarship. The amount of the scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded will be determined according to the resources available each year.
Braille Literacy Canada would like to continue to offer a scholarship in Edie’s name to help encourage people to become transcribers or rehabilitation teachers or pursue any educational activity that promotes braille. Please donate now!
About Edie Mourre
Edie was an employee with the CNIB starting in September 1977. She worked for the Library in the Winnipeg office as the head of the recording studio and braille production and in the last few years as a braille transcriber.
The loss of Edie in the Braille world was immeasurable. Her capacity for braille and for life was synonymous.
Edie was Treasurer of The Canadian Braille Authority and the chair of the English Braille Standards Committee, the parent committee for the tactile research project. She also served on the Early Literacy Materials Production Committee of the Braille Authority of North America, and as a member of the Unified English Braille Formats Committee of the International Council on English Braille.
Her passion for braille knew no bounds. She was always willing to do one or even two workshops at the Braille Conference.
