Betty Spalton began her career with B.C.'s Ministry of Transportation and Highways. She later served as District Highways Manager in McBride and went on to become President and General Manager of the Okanagan South (Penticton) Division of Argo Road Maintenance. As a member of the B.C. Road Builders Board of Directors, she headed the maintenance sector and was an acknowledged expert in maintenance policy, standards, business management and construction in general.
Broadly regarded as a leader in highway maintenance in B.C., there is widespread consensus that Ms. Spaltonís outstanding contribution to the Association and the industry has been an inspiration to many.
Argo Road Maintenance Inc. and the BC Ministry of Transportation generously donated the initial seed money for the scholarship fund. Solicited pledges from companies and individuals have also helped grow the fund and resulted from fundraising drives led by the Association's Board of Directors. The Association absorbs all administrative costs relating to the Fund.
Donations to the fund are gratefully accepted year-round and should be forwarded directly to the B.C. Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association. A tax receipt is provided for all contributions.
