United by determination, strength, and honor, the sorority celebrates the richness of Latinx culture, fosters academic achievement, and serves local college campuses and the community at large through a common bond of sisterhood. Tijeras, our national philanthropy program, was initiated over 20 years ago to advance these efforts and has been witness to incredible strides in achieving this mission. The dictionary defines the word “Tijeras” (scissors) as two blades held together by a pin. Likewise our national community service program is represented by the two blades of academic excellence and community service held together by the pin of our sisterhood. The program’s main components are directed at addressing issues of Latina leadership skills development, Latinx Literacy and increasing higher education accessibility. Each year we continue to raise the bar towards the advancement of literacy within our communities, and we strive to be a positive impact as we reach out to promote the importance of higher education to young women. Providing service to others is not just something we do, it is part of who we are. We invite you to learn more about how we are making a difference.

Scholarships

Through the years, Lambda Theta Nu has remained committed to helping Latina women achieve their academic goals by providing them with financial assistance. Our chapter’s proactive fundraising efforts allowed for us to award $40,000 in scholarships to ten Latina women in pursuit of higher education during the 2020-2021 academic school year. Each recipient received a scholarship in the amount of $4,000 to help reduce the financial burden students experience while pursuing their education while simultaneously aiming to assist with retention efforts in institutions of higher education. Our next scholarship application window will open in the Spring of 2025.

Be serious about going to and staying in college.

Phoenix Pact Scholarships are available only to students of North Lawndale College Prep who graduate with a B average, and limited to 8 college semesters.

A Pact Scholarship isn’t a free ride.

You’ll have to apply for financial aid, and most students do have to take out some loans but Phoenix Pact counselors will help you navigate the process every step of the way.

Phoenix Pact isn’t just a scholarship. It’s a Pact.

Phoenix Pact is there to assist its Scholars with whatever college throws at you. Dream big we’ve got your back.

How to Qualify

  2. Earn a weighted GPA of 3.0 or better and graduate from North Lawndale College Prep. The Phoenix Pact works only with students from NLCP who will graduate with at least a B average.
  3. Complete your application for Federal Student Aid to establish your eligibility for a maximum Pell Grant, a Pact Scholarship, and additional need-based funding. Your Phoenix Pact advisor can help you through this process.
