This scholarship is open to college students who are current members of the NJPHA High Score Awards Program and who have been a member of the High Score program for the three previous years, who are enrolled in a college or university with a riding program and who are participating in that program. This scholarship is not open to the children of professional members of the NJPHA. Candidates must submit a cover letter with the name of the college or university they are attending and the name, address and telephone number of the head of the riding program in which they are participating. Attached to the cover letter, candidates must also submit an essay. The title of the essay is ‘My Best and Worst Day Riding.”

Applicant may be awarded this scholarship only once. A committee will review all essays submitted and the winner will be announced on the NJPHA website, njpha.net. The committee’s decision will be final. Any question that may arise on any scholarship awarded or not awarded by the NJPHA that is not covered by these regulations and procedures will be brought to the Board of Directors of the NJPHA by the Scholarship Committee for a vote and that decision will be final.

Procedures

The NJPHA will award scholarships as provided in the NJPHA By-Laws (Revised-Feb., 2009) in Article VI Section 7 and Article IX. Within the mentioned By-laws, the Scholarship Committee will consider all scholarship applications made in writing to the Committee and will bring their recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval.

Applications must be received by June 1st. Professional members of the NJPHA in good standing for five(5) years and children of professional members of the NJPHA in good standing for five(5) years may apply in writing to the Scholarship Committee for financial assistance for school above high school level. The professional member must be a member for at least five (5) years prior to applying for the scholarship money. Children of deceased NJPHA professional members are eligible for scholarship monies from the NJPHA if their deceased parent was a NJPHA professional member for at least five(5) years prior to their death. The Scholarship Committee will consider full and part-time students in college, graduate school or technical school. Amounts to be awarded will be seven hundred and fifty dollars($750) a year for full-time students and three hundred and seventy-five dollars($375) a year for part-time students. Full-time college students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 5 years.

Part-time college students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 8 years. Full-time graduate students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 4 years. Part-time graduate students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 8 years. Full-time technical school students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 2 years. Part-time technical school students may receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for no more than 4 years. To receive financial assistance from the NJPHA for college studies as a part-time student, a minimum of 6 credits per semester must be taken. Part-time status of an applicant for assistance from the NJPHA in graduate school or technical school will be assessed on a school-by-school basis as determined by that particular program’s requirements. All applicants applying for scholarship assistance for their education will be required to apply in writing by June 1st, submit an official proof of enrollment to an accredited institution and/or an official college transcript to the NJPHA Scholarship Committee for each year they receive assistance.

Supporting documentation will be accepted until September 1st. No monies will be issued until an application is complete. Any question that may arise on any scholarship awarded or not awarded by the NJPHA that is not covered by these regulations and procedures will be brought to the Board of Directors of the NJPHA by the Scholarship Committee for a vote and that decision will be final.
