All graduating high school seniors who are Mira Mesa residents and have enjoyed participating in community volunteering are encouraged to apply for this year’s college scholarship that MMTC awards annually based on community service. The Mira Mesa Town Council/Verne Goodwin Scholarship Fund will award three $1000 scholarships in June. There is no minimum grade point average required. Students must be residents of Mira Mesa, members of the graduating class of any Senior High School, and planning to continue their education at a 4-year college or university, 2-year community college, vocational or technical school.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A senior graduating this year from an area high school
- Must be a resident of the community of Mira Mesa
- Plan to further education within the next year at a college, university, or technical school
Essay Guidelines:
- The essay should be “A narrative of your personal volunteer experience”
- Typed, double-spaced, 250 to 400 word, 12-point font
- Identify which volunteer project affected your outlook on volunteering life and why
- Identify favorite volunteer project and explain why it was your favorite
Applicants must submit the following:
- Cover Sheet: one-page listing candidate’s name, address, telephone number, email and graduating high school
- Community Service: list the types of volunteer service and the hours for each
- Reference Letter: from a supervisor or leader relevant to applicant’s volunteer work
- Letter of Recommendation: from school personnel or a community leader is recommended
