The Wisconsin Mathematics Education Foundation currently offers a $2,000 scholarship to qualified students currently enrolled in a Wisconsin teacher education program as an Elementary or Secondary Education Major. To be eligible students must:
- be a resident of Wisconsin and currently be enrolled in a Wisconsin public or private teacher education program.
- be enrolled in a teacher preparation course of study
- be enrolled in, or already completed, a course incorporating the teaching of mathematics
- currently have a GPA of at least 3.00 (B average) or better.

The deadline for these applications is March 1st.
In addition to completing the Application Form, please submit the following:
(all submissions must be word-processed using 12-point Arial or similar font)
A. Official transcript of grades and evidence of junior, senior, or graduate standing (we will accept a photocopy of the official transcript electronically submitted)
B. Letter of support from two instructors. In this letter please have the instructors address the following:
1. Leadership ability of the student
2. Activities the student has participated in relating to the teaching of their major
3. Examples of observations of student’s teaching quality
4.Writer’s view of success potential the student will have as a teacher
5. A statement of the experience the writer has had with the student
C. List all college-level mathematics, statistics or computer science courses that you have completed. Give the full title of each course and indicate the courses that involve statistics, computer science and/or technology.
D. List all courses still needed for program certification.
E. List activities, honors received, and professional organization memberships that demonstrate an interest in mathematics education. (Items F, G and H must be double-spaced, 12 point Arial or similar font and oneinch margins)
F. A paragraph or two (no more than one page) on the role of technology as a tool for teaching and learning mathematics.
G. A paragraph or two (no more than one page) on the place of data analysis and statistics in the curriculum.
H. An essay (no longer than two pages) addressing the following two items:
1. A current issue in mathematics education in which you are especially interested.
2. Your commitment to continual professional development through participation in the Wisconsin Mathematics Council and other professional organizations.
The completed applications and supporting documents including transcripts and letters of recommendations should be submitted to wmef@wismath.org. All documents must clearly be identified with the applicant’s name. Please also put the applicant’s name in the subject line. A scanned version of official transcripts is acceptable.
The candidates will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Academic record and teacher evaluation: 40%
- Essay Question Responses: 60%
The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
