AAUW-Lew Williams & Joan Odud Scholarship
(Formerly the Lew Williams & Leila Sulkes Scholarship)
Each year the Freehold branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) provides scholarships to women who have returned to college to complete their higher education. Applications are accepted from January – July for the following academic school year. The deadline for applying for scholarships is July 31, each year.

2026-2027 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION NOTICE
Each year the Freehold branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) provides scholarships to women who have returned to college to complete their higher education.
Scholarships of $2,000 for the academic year 2026-2027 are available from the Freehold Branch of AAUW for qualified applicants. Named for outstanding volunteers, funding for the Lew Williams and Joan Odud Scholarships is contingent upon the amounts raised by the annual June AAUW Book Sale held in June in Freehold, NJ.
In order to apply for those scholarships, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Women 25 or older,
- Residents of Monmouth or Middlesex County,
- Enrollment in an accredited bachelor’s program (minimum 60 completed credits) or master’s program (minimum 6 completed credits),
- A GPA of B or higher.
- Previous scholarship winners are not eligible to apply.
Submission of all application materials (application, transcripts and two letters of recommendation) must be made by July 31, 2026.
