The objective of the Southeast Chapter is to reward and encourage an AIST Southeast Chapter high school senior or college undergraduate student, preparing for a career in Engineering or the sciences, by providing a grant of financial support during attendance full or part-time at any accredited university or college.
Awards
The Southeast Member Chapter Systems Group Scholarship – One (1) US$2,500 one-year scholarship and the Gene Suave Scholarship – One (1) US$3,500 one-year scholarship.
Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast Chapter student pursuing a career in engineering, the sciences or other majors relating to iron and steel production on the basis of GPA from a high school (senior applicants only), or an accredited college or institution. If there are no applicants in engineering or the sciences, other majors will be considered. Consideration will be given for extracurricular activities and the student's written essay. This scholarship fund is for members of the Material Advantage program who live in, or attend a university in, the Southeast Member Chapter area, children, stepchildren, grandchildren or spouses of active (dues paid) Southeast Chapter members for two consecutive years. The student must be accepted in an eligible full or part time course of study at an accredited university or college.
Selection
Applications for the scholarship will be reviewed by the Executive board of the Southeast Chapter and an unbiased non-member of the AIST. This award will be made without regard to financial need. Students may reapply each year for the term of their college education.
Rules
- The scholarship must be used at an accredited college or university.
- The student must start the course of study at the university or college in the fall of the same year that the Scholarship is awarded.
- The AIST Foundation will forward the scholarship stipend, as a lump sum, to the college or university for deposit in the account of the student.
- In cases where the student’s studies or admission are delayed or interrupted for any reason, the Secretary must be advised immediately, and may result in forfeiture.

- Scholarship application.
- Required Essay – Explain in a brief essay (250 words or less) your involvement in high school and why you should be the recipient of this scholarship.
- A current resume with work experience (focusing specifically on field-related internships or jobs) and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions, other honors and scholarships received.
- A recommendation or evaluation from a Counselor, Teacher or Professor must be included with the application.
- Copy of current high school or college transcripts.
