The novelist James Baldwin wrote, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."
The systemic racism built into the United States' society, culture, and government is now being reckoned with as it never has before. To address this deep-rooted issue, Americans must reflect on every aspect of our country, including its laws, and begin to take action to change these racist realities.
Do you see racism in the law? How so? And most importantly, what opportunities do you see to fix it?
Wendy Doyle Palumbo wants to hear your answer to the questions above in our newly announced scholarship contest. Students wishing to enter their responses and be considered for a $1,000 scholarship can follow the steps below.
A) Write an essay explaining, in up to 500 words, the racism you see in the law and how you propose we combat it, and
B) Submit your essay, along with proof of enrollment or intent to enroll at an accredited university for the spring 2022, here.
Essays are due on December 15, 2021. We will review the essays and announce a scholarship winner by January 15, 2022.
The winning essay will be featured on our website.
