Earle and Janet Reid Scholarship

Scholarship Value: $1,000
Awards Available: 2
Award Deadline: Apr 30, 2022

Dr. Earle Reid grew up in the small community of Steam Mill, Kings County. After losing his father at the age of six due to a lack of prompt medical attention, Dr. Reid's future was determined. Driven to become a doctor, he studied his way by lamp-light before and after chores on the farm to a Governor General's award for scholastic excellence. In 1957, Earle graduated from Dalhousie University with his medical degree. Earle met the love of his life, Janet (nee Dexter), while attending a youth dance at Bethany United. They later married in that same church and spent 50 happy years together while remaining active in the church. After their passing, it was their wish to support the United Church of Canada and its parishioners by establishing this scholarship fund.
