The Alan D. Engelsman and Penny Lu Engelsman Scholarship is for an inducted Thespian of the International Thespian Society (ITS) pursuing a major in theatre education, technical theatre, playwriting or English. It was created by a generous donation from Penny Engelsman in name of her late husband, Alan Engelsman, a former Thespian troupe leader, theatre educator, and author of theatre textbooks. One applicant will receive a one-time scholarship of $500 to be applied to tuition and fees associated with full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college or university.

Each applicant MUST complete the following in Academic Works:
A) The AcademicWorks General and Student Conditional Application (Including the necessary H.S. transcript and Troupe Director letters)
B) This application and it's supplemental questions.
Qualifying students are those who demonstrate the qualities of persistence, hard work, diligence and strong character. Students must also be pursuing a major in theatre education, technical theatre, playwriting or English. Selected recipient must provide proof that they have secured a part-time job before funding will be issued.
This scholarship is for an inducted Thespian of the International Thespian Society (ITS), the student honorary organization of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA). The scholarship is renewable up to 3 times, provided that at the end of each school year, the recipient meets the following criteria:
A) Maintained part-time employment for the entire year.
B) Maintained at least a "B" average and advanced class.
C) Continued to pursue a Theatre-related degree or English.
