STORYHIVE will be accepting applications for the 2019 Youth Edition starting September 24, 2019. The deadline to submit an application to the 2019 Youth Edition is noon (12:00 pm) PDT on November 15, 2019. All submitted applications will then be moderated and Top Projects will be selected by a jury comprised of STORYHIVE and Reel Youth staff. Each of the 10 Adult Project Leads will then be required to sign the Community Stories: Youth Edition Licence Agreement (the "Reel Youth Grant Agreement") administered by Reel Youth. The final delivery date for each Project will be June 26, 2020.

1. ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to apply to the Youth Edition and receive a Grant, all applications must be supported by an Adult Project Lead who can demonstrate that they are connected to an eligible host organization: an eligible school, non-profit organization, charity, or production company; and who will accept responsibility for the obligations under these Terms and, if applicable, under the terms of the Reel Youth Grant Agreement. 

If your Project Team does not have an eligible host organization attached, please contact storyhive@reelyouth.ca and Reel Youth may act as the host organization. Note, there are limited spots for teams without a host organization.

EACH ADULT PROJECT LEAD MUST:

A) Be an employed staff member of the host organization (school, non profit, charity, or production company) as of the Youth Edition intake deadline date, October 31, 2019. It is preferable that each Adult Project Lead has some experience in filmmaking, but this is not mandatory. 

B) Be the age of majority, or older (19 years old in British Columbia) as of the Youth Edition intake deadline date, November 15, 2019.

C) Be a resident of one of the following Okanagan, BC communities: Kamloops (Kamloops and Williams Lake), Kelowna (Armstrong, Creston, Kelowna, Peachland, Trail, and Westbank), Penticton (Castlegar, Gallagher Lake, Naramata, Penticton, Okanagan Falls, Oliver, Osoyoos, and Summerland), and Vernon (Oyama, Salmon Arm, Vernon) (the Adult Project Lead's "Community of Residence"); and be able to supply current proof of residency for the address listed on their application; 

D) Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada;

E) Be able to provide complete, clean, unencumbered chain of title for the Project, as well as all necessary release forms and the rights to all the music (including synchronization and master use rights) and all other material, performances, etc. in the Project and must enter into a Reel Youth Grant Agreement; and

F) Not be an individual associated with TELUS, including but not limited to the following (the "Excluded Individuals"): an employee, contractor, agent and representative of TELUS, Optik TV, TELUS Satellite TV or another broadcast distribution undertaking (a BDU) such as Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct or any other Canadian cable or IPTV service provider, or any external partners of TELUS (including Reel Youth) who enter into an agreement with TELUS to assist in any way with the Youth Community Stories program. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Excluded Individuals may participate in a Project as a member of the video production crew, provided they are not the Adult Project Lead.

G) Not have received a broadcast licence from a Canadian broadcaster in the last five years.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS 

To be eligible to apply to Youth Community Stories and receive a Grant:

1) Each Project Team must choose one of the following digital citizenship themes (the "Youth Community Stories Themes") to explore in their Project:

A) Online safety

B) Cyber bullying

C) Tech addiction

D) Online Social Connection vs Disconnection

2) The Adult Project Lead must agree to support the youth team members throughout the whole project process and is responsible for managing the budget and the finances of the project. 

3) Up to five youth (14-24 yrs old) must make up the key project leads (the"Youth Team Creative Leads") and will lead the pre-production, production, and post production process of the project with support and guidance from the Adult Project Lead.

4) The Youth Team Creative Leads must include least one self-identified female team member;

5) the Project must maintain compliance with all laws, regulations and policies governing content, taste, community reflection and diversity of voices including the Broadcasting Act, CRTC Best Practice Code, and other relevant Canadian codes pertaining to the nature of acceptable content (Please consult the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council website for further information), and must otherwise qualify for a G or PG rating;

6) the Project must be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes in length including any and all screen credits;

7) the Project must complete final technical delivery of the Project to the acceptance of Reel Youth on or before 5:00 pm PDT on June 26, 2020. (Note: all budget overages are the sole responsibility of the Adult Project Lead);

8) the Project must be in a format that can be delivered for distribution on IPTV and online (i.e. meet technical requirements for delivery for both video on demand and online) Note: submitted videos must be in a High Definition format.

9) the Project must not have been already shot and/or seeking completion funding. STORYHIVE will allow a maximum of 15% of a Project to have previously been shot if it falls into the Documentary or Animation category,

10) No less than 75% of the filming and production of the Project must take place in the Adult Project Lead's Community of Residence. No less than 75% Project's budget cmust be spent in the Adult Project Lead's Community ofResidence;

11) the Project cannot have been previously licensed to a broadcaster or appeared on a major broadcast television network; and

12) the Project may be in any language. Languages other than English must be subtitled or versioned into English.
