This scholarship was established to support current graduating seniors from public high schools in the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro, and the counties of Rockingham, Augusta and Shenandoah, who plan to attend a four-year Virginia public college or university to further their education. This scholarship will only be awarded to students eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant. Students must be planning to work toward a bachelor's degree with a science, engineering, or business major.
A student pursuing a degree in a field of study other than those listed above may apply, but must clearly communicate the viability of his/her chosen career path in the application.
REQUIREMENTS
An eligible student must be graduating from one of the following school systems:
Harrisonburg City
Staunton City
Waynesboro City
Rockingham County
Augusta County
Shenandoah County
Students must be accepted and plan to attend a Virginia public college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree. Preference will be given to first generation college students.
The Selection Committee will consider the following:
1-Demonstrated financial need (Pell Grant eligible students only)
2-Academic Performance
3-Character and drive to succeed
4-Field of Study/Career Path
This scholarship will support the student for eight semesters of undergraduate education, as long as the student is in good standing, achieving a 3.0 or better GPA while enrolled full-time, and is meeting agreed upon expectations predetermined by the Selection Committee. A recipient must agree to meet periodically during the academic year with a mentor, which may be arranged with the assistance of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County (TCFHR). A recipient must provide a progress update to TCFHR each semester. Recipients must also submit a brief application each year to be considered for renewal of the scholarship.
