Granville P. Meade Scholarship

The Granville P. Meade Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college. The Granville P. Meade fund provides scholarship awards to worthy and financially disadvantaged Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia's public or private colleges or universities.

Principals of all public and nonpublic senior high schools are requested to assist in making students aware of the scholarship opportunity. In the past year, each scholarship was in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years, provided the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.

Application Procedures & Important Dates

Please Note: Only applications submitted through the procedure outlined below will be considered. Applications are not to be submitted directly to the Virginia Department of Education by students, parents, school counselors or principals.

1) Public School Students

A) By March 13, 2020 – Deadline for public school students to submit their completed application to their administrator or head of school.

B) By March 27, 2020 – Deadline for public school administrators submit all applications to their local division superintendent.

C) By April 24, 2020 – Deadline for each designated chairperson to submit up their five most qualified applications to the Virginia Department using the Granville P. Meade Scholarship registration portal.

D) May 8, 2020 – Letters will be mailed by May 8, 2020, to all finalists notifying them of the Granville P. Meade Schoalrship Committee's decision.

E) May 31, 2020 – Superintendents will be notified of recipients.

2) Homeschool Students

By March 27, 2020 – Deadline for Homeschool students to submit their application to the Home Educator's Association of Virginia designated chairperson. Homeschool students are to mail their applications to the following address:

A) By April 24, 2020 – Deadline for each designated chairperson to submit their five most qualified applications to the Virginia Department using the Granville P. Meade Scholarship registration portal.

C) May 31, 2020 – Home Educators Association of Virginia will be notified of recipients.
