AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary offers scholarships to a member’s son, daughter, or grandchild and to members of the Ladies Auxiliary. You could make a donation in the name of a deceased member; or to remember someone on other occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, job promotion, etc. We should encourage students to enter for all appropriate and available scholarships.
Scholarships available are Youth, Nursing and Career Scholarships.
Project Examples: Walk-A-Thons, Bike-A-Thons, and Silent Auctions.
Who We Are
We are mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, step-daughters, and granddaughters of AMVETS and female veterans who are currently serving or who have honorably served in the Armed Forces of the United States, including the National Guard and Reserve components, anytime after September 15, 1940.
What We Do
We serve veterans, their families and communities. We focus on community service and youth development; providing career change, nursing and youth scholarships; assisting hospitalized veterans; sending love and support to active duty military personnel, as well as demonstrating patriotism and civic engagement.
In addition to the organizations within our local communities, the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary programs actively support the Freedom’s Foundation to foster American history and civic engagement; John Tracy Clinic for deaf and hearing-impaired youth ages 18 months to 5 years; Penrickton Center for Blind and Multi-disabled Children from birth to 12 years old; PAWS with a Cause Assistance Dog training for persons with disabilities; St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; and the Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services programs.

DEPARTMENT OF MICHIGAN AMVETS LADIES AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES:
The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Grants have been established to recognize need and reward academic achievement and potential of students, to stimulate recruitment of well-qualified candidates for careers in our society today and to reflect the interest and involvement of its members. Scholarship grants will be judged and awarded at the AMVETS Department Convention, held during the month of June. At least one (1) Scholarship grant will be awarded with a minimum amount of $1000. Identical or lesser amount of Scholarship grants may be awarded when finances permit.
ELIGIBILITY:
1. The applicant must be a member of AMVETS, AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Sons of AMVETS, or a spouse, child, or grandchild of a member of the AMVET family.
2. Applicants must be a high school graduate by June 30 of the application year or be attending an accredited college or university leading to a degree.
3. The Applicant must be a resident of the State of Michigan.
GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATIONS:
- 1. Applicant must complete the application provided in a legible manner. Type or print please.
- 2. Statements of financial need must be completed. If applicant is (or was) employed, he/she must submit a W-2 form
- 3. List the financial aid provided by parents or guardian.
- 4. The following documents MUST be submitted by May 22, 2026, directly to the Department of Michigan AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Officer:
- An official transcript (with raised seal or raised watermark) of applicant’s most recent high school or college transcript available for this year with cumulative grade average and total accumulated credits or notarized high school equivalency certificate with scores.
- If transcript does not reflect graduation from high school, a letter on official school letterhead reflecting graduation by June 30 must be submitted.
- A self-generated computerized transcript is NOT an official transcript and will not be accepted.
- 5. If applicant is a first-year student, a letter of acceptance on official school letterhead from an accredited college or university must be submitted.
- 6. Proof of eligibility - copy of applicant or sponsor’s membership card. AMVETS Family Org.
- 7. All applications must be sent to the Department of Michigan AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Officer postmarked no later than May 22, 2026.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
- 40% - Financial need: Information on application regarding financial need.
- 30% - Academic: Scholastic transcripts of semester average with all courses taken in previous years with explanation of grading system.
- 20% -Goals: Information from the personal data.
- 05% - Volunteerism
- 05% - Grammar and Punctuation
All applications will be judged by the Scholarship Committee led by the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary and consisting of active AMVETS family of organization members. Winners will be announced at the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Department Convention in June. Checks will be mailed to the recipient(s) within 3 days of the close of the convention.
