The Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) is an independent charitable organization seeking to engage and attract students to the material handling, logistics and supply chain industry by providing financial support. Since 1976, our programs have supported over 1,500 students and educators seeking pathways to quality educational programs and fulfilling careers.

Award Amount: $1,500 to $6,000 (multiple scholarships available)

One application gives students consideration for all scholarships offered by the Foundation, though only one award will be granted per recipient. Scholarships are one-year awards, and former recipients may re-apply each year if they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.

There are two separate applications for the 2026/2027 academic term - one for rising freshman and one for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. Please select the appropriate program when applying.

Student Eligibility

For the 2026/2027 academic term, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student pursuing a material handling, logistics or supply chain career at a qualified college or university in a target program (see list below). Students must be classified as freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior for the Fall 2026 term to be eligible.
  • Attend a non-profit college or university in the United States accredited by the Council for Higher Education.
  • Maintain a "B" grade point average or higher in their major.
  • Remain enrolled in school for the entire academic year (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027) without interruption barring illness, emergency, or military service.

Note: Scholarship awards cannot be used for study abroad programs/semesters.

Undergraduate students from programs listed below that have a focus on material handling, logistics and/or supply chain management are encouraged to apply.

  • Industrial Engineering
  • Industrial Distribution
  • Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering with a focus on cold-formed steel design
  • Engineering Technology
  • Computer Science related to Material Handling & Supply Chain
  • Business & Management related to Material Handling or Supply Chain Management
  • Imaging and Camera-Based Vision Systems Identification/Bar Codes/RFID/LIDAR Sensors/RADAR Sensors

How to Apply for Scholarships

1. Receive a recommendation

Applicants must first obtain a recommendation from a professor, faculty member or employer. Students should visit https://MHEFI.smapply.org to create an account and request a recommendation by entering the name and e-mail address of their chosen recommender. Once the recommender completes the form emailed to them, an e-mail will be sent to the student notifying them that their recommendation has been submitted and that they can begin the rest of the application process.

2. Complete the short-answer questions and list your extracurricular activities, work experience, and awards/honors

3. Upload your resume and supporting documentation to demonstrate your commitment to and understanding of the material handling, logistics, and supply chain industry, such as research papers, project summaries, white papers, case studies, or a video.

4. Submit an official transcript

An official transcript sent directly from the student's school is required along with the application. Students may either request the university send the transcript via e-mail with a secure download link with printing allowed to mammons@mhi.org or via postal mail to Mary Alyson Ammons at MHEFI, 8720 Red Oak Blvd., Suite 201, Charlotte, NC 28217. Incoming freshman students should request a transcript from their former high school. Please note that we will not accept transcripts directly from the student since the documents cannot be authenticated.

The scholarship application for the 2026/2027 academic term will open on October 1, 2025. Scholarship awards for the 2026/2027 academic term will be announced by April 30, 2026
