The scholarship program was founded by Sealaska Corporation and is administered by SHI. Most scholarship funds awarded are provided by Sealaska from an endowment and corporate 7 (i) sharing provisions established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The Section 7(i) Agreement among the regional corporations provides scholarships to students seeking degrees in disciplines that lead to employment in Sealaska or its subsidiaries.
In order to qualify, individuals must meet the following criteria:
A) Alaska Native as defined as "Native" under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act 43 U.S.C. 1602(b).
B) Enrolled to Sealaska Corporation, OR are Native lineal descendants of Alaska Natives enrolled to Sealaska Corporation whether the applicant owns Sealaska Corporation stock or not.
C) Have a GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate, and 3.0 for graduate.
D) Accepted and enrolled in an accredited postsecondary educational institution.
E) Enrolled to attend on a full-time basis as defined by the education institution in which you are enrolled.
