Robert W. White, Sr. served four years in the United States Navy as a chief electrician in the submarine service. He then continued his education at Long Beach State University while working full time for A.P. Seedorff Company, servicing and later designing Resistance welding equipment.
In 1960, at the age of 25, Mr. White, Sr. established Janda Company, Inc., a manufacturer of standard and special resistance welding equipment. During the next half century, he designed over 3,000 special resistance welders for the U.S. Government, aerospace industry, building industry, wire products industry and sheet metal industry. Due to Mr. White's creative innovation the majority of these specials were a first in the industry.
Throughout the years he assisted the U.S. Government and Aerospace Industries in research and development of highly sophisticated, never before accomplished, resistance welding processes and equipment to meet the highest Government Mil. Spec. requirements
Mr. White, Sr. was honored for his achievements with a prestigious award from Lockheed Martin for his Dedication and significant contribution to programs of Great National importance, as well as receiving the Elihu Thomson award in 2008 in recognition by his peers for his contributions to the resistance welding industry.
Purpose
This scholarship is in honor of Mr. Robert W. White, Sr. and his belief of a strong future for the welding industry through continual creative innovation and processes in resistance welding.
Eligibility
- The Robert W. White, Sr. Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time college junior or senior-level student pursuing a minimum four-year Bachelor's degree in welding engineering. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements.
- Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age.
- Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma.
- Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 overall grade point average.
- Proof of financial need is not required to qualify.
- Applicant must submit all required application information.
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution within the United States.
- Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of two years.
